Belot card game is played with a 32-card (A K Q J 10 9 8 7) Central European suited deck.

The basic rules are as follows:

1. At the beginning of a game, the player who has the first turn assesses his cards and chooses a trump suit or passes in which case next player has a right to take or pass.

2. The team who chooses the trump suite must win or otherwise the opposing team claims all the points for the game.

3. At the beginning of a game, there are several point declarations available worth anywhere from 20 to 200 points. Only the team with a stronger point declaration can claim the points. The claiming team must also show the cards that have the point declarations. The "stronger" point declaration is determined by the strongest individual declaration not a sum of different point declerations. So, for example, a 20 point call of three cards in a row up to an ace is stronger than two 20 point calls, each made up of three cards in a row but both below an ace. Also, for examople, a call made of 4 queens is stronger than a call of three cards in a row simply because the individual call of 4 queens is worth 100 points and therefore stronger than 20 points up to an ace. Possible point declarations are the following:
  • 4 jacks: 200 points
  • 4 nines: 150 points
  • 4 Aces, tens, Ks, Qs: 100 points
  • 3 cards in a row: 20 points, following the order: (Ace King Queen Jack 10 9 8 7)
  • 4 cards in a row: 50 points, following the order: (Ace King Queen Jack 10 9 8 7)
  • 5 cards in a row: 100 points, following the order: (Ace King Queen Jack 10 9 8 7)
In our interface, a player can claim these declaration by raising his cards with the right mouse and clicking "Call".

4. In the trump suit the "jack" and "nine" are the strongest cards, each worth 20 and 14 points correspondingly. In the non-trump suit, the ace is the strongest card.

Non-trump suit:

Trump suit:

5. After a player throws a card, the next player must throw a stronger card of the same color. If there is no such card available, then the player must throw a weaker card of the same color. Yet if the player cannot match the color at all, then he must throw a trump suite card. After a trump suite card has been thrown over a color, the next player must only match the base color so he does not have to throw a stronger card in that color.

6. If a player has the "king" and the "queen" in the trump suite, he can declare this as "Bela" for 20 points when throwing one of these cards. This is accomplished by raising the card with the right mouse button and clicking "Call".

7. In a two player game, a player has the right to exchange the "seven" in his first six cards for the trump suite card shown below the deck. This is accomplished by dragging the "seven" to the deck.

8. In a four player game, two players play against two. In three and two player games every player plays for himself.

9. In a three player game, the player who calls the trump suite gets twelve cards and has the right to put away two cards from his hands into his deck.

10. The winner is the player or team that first reaches the winning amount of points:
  • 2 player game: 501 points
  • 3 player game: 701 points
  • 4 player game: 1001 points
